Birth Abuse condemns prevalent abuses in perinatal care, and demands radical reform of the way we care for all those having or trying to have babies. This challenging view of perinatal treatment may be painful reading for clients and threatening for caregivers.

Caregivers like to think they offer sensitive and expert clinical care, but perinatal practice is often abusive. It includes physical, emotional, or sexual assaults, and inadequate evidence-based treatment. Abuse is far more common than we ever wanted to imagine.

Reviews

“What important work, so lucidly and comprehensively presented.  Drawing on decades of international experience, this book reaches widely across multiple fields of research to not only describe the deep-rooted systemic problems in maternal and newborn care, but importantly, to identify the way forward. Painful but essential reading.”
